Barrel Born.
Colorado Finished.
Louisville Poured.
A private whiskey experience unlike anything else on the trail.
You're in the mecca of bourbon. You've done the trail. You know what a distillery tour feels like.
This is something different.
Onyx & Amber brings whiskey finished in Colorado — barrels sourced from Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio, transformed by mountain air and pressure swings, and brought here specifically for this experience. No crowded tours. No rehearsed speeches. Just you, your guests, and whiskey with a story in every pour.
Why This Whiskey Tastes Different Here
Kentucky makes great whiskey. Colorado does something else entirely.
The barrels you'll taste began their lives in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio — aged for years in their original regions before they were brought to Colorado to finish. That's where the transformation happens.
The barometric pressure swings in Denver are intense — snow at 7 AM, 55 degrees by 2 PM. That constant shifting forces whiskey deeper into the barrel wood and back out again, far more frequently than it would in any Kentucky rickhouse. Meanwhile, Colorado's dry mountain air pulls water out of the barrel while the ethanol stays. What's left is more concentrated, richer, and more viscous than the same distillate finished anywhere else in the country.
Seven years doesn't taste like seven years once Colorado gets involved. That's not marketing. That's what's in the glass.
No other stop on the trail is pouring anything like it.
THE SETTING
We're hosted in Tartan House's private building in Louisville. Dark walls, warm leather, a long oak table, and a sense of calm that makes it easy to pay attention to what's actually in your glass.
It doesn't look like a tasting room. It feels like somewhere you'd want to spend an afternoon.
This is a completely private, separate space — reserved exclusively for your group. You're not sharing with strangers or waiting for a tour to start. From the moment you arrive, it's yours.
This is a private location — not a public tasting room. Visits are by appointment only.
Four Ways to Spend Time With the Whiskey
These experiences are designed to feel like nothing else you've done on the trail. Unhurried, private, and guided by someone with direct access to the founder and master blender — which means your questions get real answers, not rehearsed ones. Availability is intentionally limited, and all visits are by appointment only. This isn't a high-volume operation, and that's exactly the point.
THE TASTING
Start here.
A curated flight of Onyx & Amber expressions, each one different, none of them repeating. You'll taste what Colorado's finishing process does to a barrel — the concentration, the viscosity, the depth — alongside the full story of where each whiskey came from, how long it's been aging, and what makes it unlike anything else you'll find in Kentucky.
Come curious. Leave changed.

THE BLENDING CLASS
Make the only bottle like it in the world.
You'll taste your way through a selection of Onyx & Amber expressions — different ages, different mash bills, different barrel profiles — understanding how each one behaves. Then you build something with them. Your proportions, your instincts, your result.
Your blend is recorded and crafted by Ben himself in Colorado using the barrels selected for this experience. Your bottle will be fulfilled and shipped to you — expect delivery within a few weeks of your visit. A bottle that exists because of the decisions you made in that room on that afternoon.
Nobody else will ever make that exact blend. Not because it's a special edition — because it came from you.
THE PRIVATE
BLENDING PROGRAM
The right people. The right whiskeys. One perfect blend.
You taste through 3–5 Onyx & Amber whiskies, each one sourced from barrels aging in Colorado. Different ages, different mash bills, different profiles. Then you work with the O&A team to decide what goes in — the exact percentages, the exact result. When it’s right, that blend gets produced in Colorado and bottled exclusively for your group with a fully custom label.
Minimum 72 bottles at $100 per bottle. Every bottle is yours. No two batches are ever the same.
What’s included:
A hands-on blending session with 3–5 single-barrel whiskies, aged 3–17 years
Samples sourced from barrels aging in Colorado, poured for your session using a mini whiskey thief
Full transparency on every barrel — distillery, mash bill, age, and what Colorado has done to it
A bespoke batch produced and bottled exclusively for your group, with a fully custom label
Minimum 72 bottles at $100 per bottle — ideal for corporate groups, special occasions, and private gifts
THE barrel Selection
The experience the industry used to offer. Now it's rare.
Before COVID, selecting your own barrel was a ritual — something people treasured as much as the whiskey itself. There was conversation, patience, and a genuine sense that the experience mattered as much as what ended up in the bottle. After COVID, that quietly disappeared. Onyx & Amber built the Kentucky experience to take it back.
You'll taste a curated set of single-barrel samples side by side — each one sourced from Kentucky, Indiana, or Ohio, brought to Colorado to finish their aging. The distillery, the mash bill, the age, what Colorado's final years have done to them. When something speaks to you, that barrel becomes yours.
What you select, no one else gets.
Bring the Right People
The best tastings we've ever been part of weren't about the whiskey alone. They were about the conversation that started because of it.
These experiences are designed for the people you actually want to spend time with — a group of friends who take whiskey seriously, a work team that deserves something memorable, a couple who wants something beyond a restaurant reservation, or a collector looking for their next barrel without the pressure of a mass-market selection event.
The room seats up to 10, with additional seating available for non-drinkers. The experience scales to your group. Private means private.
